Khartoum is Africa's safest (and most hospitable!) capital. It's a diverse, sparsely populated city that's quiet yet lively, and infinitely colourful. It's diverse in its sounds, smells, taste and dialect, and is a true embodiment of Africa meets the Middle East. I've never fallen in love with a capital city like I did Khartoum - it has surprise around ever corner and history on every doorstep.
